Getting Around
There are numerous ways to navigate your way around London. Main types of transport in London include the Tube (Underground), Overground, Rail, Bus, Taxi, Bicycle on foot and lesser known ones such as the Docklands Light Railway, Tram, and River Bus!
All LSBM full time students are eligible for a 30% discount on the cost of travel using any of the Transport for London services by obtaining an 18+ Student Oyster Photo card. You can apply online once you have enrolled at LSBM on the Transport for London website (www.tfl.gov.uk). This concession can help you when planning your budget. The discount only applies for travel cards covering the period of one week, one month or one year. Discounts are not given for daily travel cards or single journeys. |
London and surrounding areas are very well covered with a network of underground and Overground trains as well as buses. Therefore getting from one place to the other is relatively easy.
Buses
Buses although slower in comparison to the underground, are a great way to get to know your way around London and one of the most economical means of public transport where a single journey can cost as little as £2.
Students who wish to travel on the National Rail Network can also gain discounted fares by applying for a Young Persons Railcard. Some journeys on the Rail Network can also be paid for using a Tfl Oyster card.
Taxis
London is serviced by a number of black cabs and mini cabs. While black cabs are one of the most recognizable symbols of London and a reliable means of transport, they can be costly. Licensed Mini cabs may offer a more economical option but you must always make sure that you are using a registered mini cab service and book it in advance. Never use a mini cab service if you suspect that it is not registered! Please contact the Student Services Coordinator for more information.
