Finding a Good College in London

The majority of students use the Internet to search for and find out about colleges in London before they start the enrolment or registration process. Please be extremely careful before making payments to any institution! You have to make 100% sure that the college or university are issuing valid qualifications (certificates, diplomas and degrees).

There are unfortunately some colleges in London attracting students under false pretenses and issue qualifications that are not valid (bogus qualifications) which you should be avoiding. Institutions with UK Degree awarding powers maintain an acclaimed reputation globally by adhering to highly regulated rules.

Colleges in London and the UK should be registered with the British Accreditation Council (the BAC) or equivalent. They should also be registered with the UK Border and Immigration Agency (UKBA) and preferable have a "A rating". This is the absolute minimum requirement.

Any educational establishment that calls itself a university and to have UK Degree awarding powers must be evaluated by the Advisory Committee on Degree Awarding Powers (ACDAP), part of the UK Quality Assurance Agency of Higher Education (QAA).   • Be wary of any college which has not been accredited by the BAC or a similar quality assurance agency for the private sector.
  • Check that the college offers accredited qualifications by a recognized awarding organisation such as Edexcel, OCR listed on the Register of Regulated Qualifications (OFQUAL) or has a lawful relationship with a UK University.
  • Any college that is not registered with the UK Border Agency (UKBA) will not be legally authorised to sponsor International students whatsoever. This is referred to as a “Tier 4 license”.
  • Colleges which do not have a Tier 4 license cannot legitimately give out supporting visa documents, or CAS letters (visa support letters).

The endless choices of courses and colleges in London offers options for anyone wanting to expand their horizons, however be sure you do not get caught out. To ensure you make the most of your time spent on tertiary education it is worth asking at least the basic questions before making your decision final. Do not be afraid to ask!
