Sri LankaLSBM in Sri Lanka and Colombia

LSBM Student Advisors recently visited Sri Lanka and Colombia to promote the School to local students.
I interviewed Matt Gordon after his visit to Colombo in late August.
Matt, you recently visited Sri Lanka where you met prospective students. What are your general impressions from this trip?
"Sri Lanka is a wonderful country, and all of the people I had the pleasure to meet were very friendly. Despite its recent political problems, the people seem very keen to pursue opportunities to develop themselves further, in order to grow their economy. I spent most of the time in Colombo, which is a very lively, bustling city. There are many top UK universities and colleges recruiting actively there, so it was great to see that LSBM generated much interest".
Why do you think Sri Lankan students want to come to the UK to study?
"I think there are many reasons. Possibly, the knowledge of the English language and culture, and similarities to the education system at secondary level mean Sri Lankans feel they ‘know’ Britain already. As a result, Sri Lankans have a good grasp of the British education system in general terms and also know that a degree or postgraduate qualification from a UK institution can open many doors internationally. The people I met were all eager to improve their academic profiles as well as their professional backgrounds. They know that studying in a UK (and especially in a London) context means Sri Lankan employers can be confident that a student will not only obtain a valuable qualification, but also gain much experience the relevant to businesses that operate in an international or national environment".
What LSBM courses are popular among Sri Lankan students and why?
"Most of our courses have received interest, but the front runners are probably the degree (BSc in Business Administration) pathway programme we offer in business and the IT degree pathway (BSc in Computing and Information Systems). These seem to be popular as many Sri Lankans are studying similar programmes at a lower level and want to further their understanding of the subjects and obtain a degree in the process. In terms of the business course, they know that they can learn much more about international business in London than they can in Colombo. With the IT programme, they know that the facilities available in London generally, and at LSBM in particular, are very good".

ColumbiaMonika Popp visited Colombia in early October.

I visited Bogotá, Colombia where I took part in an education exhibition, talked to local representatives and met with many students who are attracted to the UK and London in particular.

The courses offered by LSBM, especially at a Postgraduate level, are very popular among Colombian students, who appreciate the value of a UK degree.

Columbia

They want to gain insight into international management systems, and the UK is well recognised for this.

LSBM’s reception in Colombia was very promising and we are expecting more students to join us in January and next September.

CTI Student Tour

In September, LSBM hosted a student tour school for students from CTI in South Africa.

This unique opportunity gave the students a chance to study in London and obtain a certificate in the Principles of International Business.

London EyeAs part of the visit, we also prepared a varied and interesting programme included visits to many historical and cultural sights of London, such as the Houses of Parliament, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, Jack the Ripper Tour and the London Eye (see picture).

We look forward to hosting more of these student trips in future.
