Study in London - London School of Business and Management
Welcome to the London School of Business and Management (LSBM).
Birkbeck College, University of LondonWe are a private Higher Education College, located in the centre of London (Bloomsbury), directly opposite the University of London Union (ULU) and Birkbeck College, University of London. We deliver full-time UK higher education courses in Business and Computing at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including the MBA. We are planning to introduce undergraduate and postgraduate law courses from September 2014. Our courses are validated by UK universities and Edexcel.
We have a partnership with Birkbeck College where all our teaching takes place. Our students have full access to Birkbeck College’s library (including full borrowing rights) and computer facilities (including Wi-Fi). Our students are also enrolled as associate members of ULU, providing them with access to social, recreational and sporting facilities and activities, which includes a discounted fee for use of the gym and swimming pool. These partnerships with Birkbeck College and ULU provide us with a unique position in the private higher education sector, and contribute to enabling us to fulfil our commitment to provide our students with a high quality ‘university’ experience.
Our undergraduate courses are designated for funding by the Student Loans Company (SLC) which enables our UK and EU students to apply to the SLC for tuition fee loans, maintenance grants and maintenance loans. We are conferred Highly Trusted Sponsor status by the UK Border Agency (UKBA) and are therefore authorised to issue our own Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) to enable our international students to apply for their Tier 4 (General) student visa.
Our mission (to build careers, to transform lives and to raise aspirations) is clear:
Build rewarding careers for our students and our staff.
Transform our students’ lives through the provision of a high quality ‘university’ experience with a personal touch.
Raise the aspirations of our students to attain their full potential, to become independent and critical learners.
Raise the aspirations of our staff by developing, supporting and empowering them to deliver excellent teaching, research and scholarship, student support and service provision.
We are committed to higher education. I have 20 years of experience as a UK University academic, my last position being Head of the School of Law and Professor of Law at Birmingham City University (2009-2011). Our faculty includes distinguished academics with 25 per cent having a PhD and another 25 per cent working towards their doctorate. Many of our faculty have practice-based experience, providing our students with a ‘real-world’ dimension to their academic studies.
Our teaching and learning strategy is student-centred. We celebrate the fact that across all our courses we have students achieving the highest grades in individual modules and award classifications, confirming our teaching and learning approach equips students to attain their full potential. From our most recent cohort of graduating students (February 2013) two graduated with BSc Business and Management Studies, First Class Honours and one student was conferred the MBA with Distinction. The UK’s Quality Assurance Agency reviewed the quality and standards of our higher education provision in May 2012 and expressed confidence in all three areas of assessment.
We recognise our students as full members of our College. We value our students’ input into our operational and strategic development. We include our students as full members of our decision-making committees: the Academic Committee and the Course Committees.
We look forward to welcoming you as a member of our academic community.
